Facebook

This is a great question, and I’m always happy to help people navigate this. Social media is a big deal, and a lot of people want to know if they need to be on social media. So let me dive in and give you some answers. But in order to give answers, I need to ask questions.

  1. FacebookIf you had a Facebook page – would you post to it? If the answer is no, then probably you don’t need it. The point of Facebook, or any social media, is to engage with people online. If you aren’t going to engage, then you probably don’t need to have it. Except if you have a restaurant. Then you need a Facebook page regardless, that includes your address, phone number, hours and menu. People are often on Facebook and want to know the hours or see the menu of a restaurant they plan to visit – so put all that stuff on there because they may find that before they see your website. Side note – if you close down the restaurant, please remove the page or update it with that information so people aren’t standing outside wondering why your Facebook page said you are open and you aren’t.
  2. Do you offer regular specials? If so, then YES, you need a Facebook page. Posting about your business specials and deals is a great way to engage your customer and remind them to come in for savings
  3. Do you have a business that you need to share news and information about? For example, a doctor’s office that may need to share updates on vaccination clinics or a veterinarian’s office where you’d like to share information on dog food recalls? This is all good stuff to have on Facebook and a compelling reason to have a Facebook page. People who use Facebook tend to check it daily, but they don’t check your website daily (most of the time.)
  4. Do you regularly have videos to share? Then yes, Facebook is a great place to share those! And if they are good, people will share them as well. It’s a great place to build a following for your videos.

It may seem like, after reading all these items, that yes, you need a Facebook page. Many businesses would benefit from having one. But if you don’t have anything so share, if you know you won’t update it, then feel free to skip it this time. You always have the option of starting one up later if you feel the need.
