We do a lot of sites. 99% of these sites have handy little contact forms. And if you have a contact form, at some point, you are going to get SEO Spam.
What’s SEO Spam? It’s a submission on your contact form or an email sent to you that starts with something like this:
Dear website owner,
I’ve noticed your site isn’t being found in the top search engine results. Our company can….
OR
Dear xxx,
You’re missing out on hundreds of visitors every day….
I receive at least one of these every week. I am well trained to ignore these, but our clients get these as well and sometimes they don’t know what to think. I had one client who, in fact, was #1 in Google for many searches, and he got one and thought, “WHAT?”
The people who send these messages don’t actually know how you are ranking, they don’t know who is visiting your site. They send hundreds of these messages a day.
Why do they do it? Because it works. People respond. So my message to you is:
DON’T RESPOND.
These people will only keep fishing as long as people keep responding.
