WordCampAt Sumy Designs, we are WordPress developers. When you come to us for a website, you are going to have a WordPress website. WordPress powers over 20% of the web right now. It’s the hottest CMS since sliced bread. (True story.)

To that end, we love going to Wordcamps. What’s WordCamp? WordCamps happen all over the world, and they are local, organized conferences centered on WordPress. WordPress design, WordPress development, WordPress use, blogging, freelancing, everything related to WordPress.

I love immersing myself in WordPress, learning new skills, finding ways to work with clients, find new clients, and expand my business. Making new friends who also share this love has been an added benefit.

This weekend we attended WordCamp Las Vegas, our second annual trip to Las Vegas for this conference. It’s been fantastic.

Of course, it’s always great to see the big time speakers like Chris Lema, Dre Armeda, and Steve Zehngut. But some other standout sessions have provided us with some great information as well. A session on Pinterest and how to use it to promote your brand, which I previously didn’t think was a worthwhile endeavor, really gave me some valuable information that not only will help us, but will give us more tools to use for our clients.

WordCamps aren’t just for developers. Attendees at WordCamps include designers and developers, of course, but also include bloggers, business owners who use WordPress for their site. Attendees are also newbies and who want to learn more and increase their WordPress use. Thinking of going to aWordCamp but afraid you won’t fit in? DON’T. You too can learn a lot by attending a WordCamp.

If you are thinking of attending one, but are worried you’ll be out of place, feel inadequate, or that you don’t know enough – stop, sign up now. The WordPress community is fantastic, and that’s why we are a part of it. There’s always something you can learn, someone you can meet, and more.
