Contractor Website - laptop displaying Asher Construction home page

We have done a lot of websites for service-based businesses. Contractors are a good example. If you offer a service to clients at their home, especially if it’s an expensive service, then you need a good website. Here’s why. In 2017, most people are going to research you before they call. They want to know they are hiring quality people they can trust. If your website looks homemade or out-of-date, that makes you look bad. Potential clients might think you don’t invest in your business, either because your business isn’t that great or because you can’t afford to.

Here’s the list of what your website absolutely has to have:

  • A great homepage. This is often, but not always, the first page people will see when they land on your site. It should look professional.
  • Your phone number, at the top. People want to call you, so make it easy.
  • A compelling reason to call you. Why are you great? Tell them!
  • Photos of your work. If you provide service, post photos of your work. People want to see that you know what you’re doing.
  • Photos of you. People want to know who they are hiring before they ask you to come to their home. Put a photo of yourself and your team if you have one.
  • Testimonials. Have other people hired you? Did they like you? Share the good news!
  • Multiple ways to contact you. Not just a phone number. Not just an email. Not just a contact form. You need to give people many ways to contact you so they can contact you the way THEY feel comfortable doing it. (Not the way you like best!)
  • A great call to action! You’ve told them why you are great, not tell them what to do! Should they call? Should they fill out your form? Should they subscribe to your newsletter? Ask them to do it!

If you have a professional website with all those pieces, you are much more likely to gain the user’s trust and build your own credibility which will convert into new clients.
