author website design

fiveRecently, Amy and I attended WordCamp in Chicago. It was a fantastic experience and we got to sit in on some pretty amazing conferences. One of the conference sessions, presented by Ross Johnson, was about the importance of the immediate subconscious response a person gets when looking at a website. In this session we learned how important it is to design websites for the first five seconds of viewing. In the five seconds the viewer does and experiences many things, including:

  • recall a vast amount of past associations
  • makes an assessment about how they feel
  • evoke emotions with the survival part of the brain

Because of these things it is very important to get people to trust you with imagery and words. Things like simplicity, legibility and conjuring a positive familiar emotion lend to a successful website. All the decisions  you make should make the viewer feel like they trust your site. If your site doesn’t look like the site they were intending to find, then the chances are your viewers will find one that does.

If your website needs updating or if you are in need of a new website, Sumy Designs can help. Contact us today for a free estimate.
