Websites with blogs have more visitors and more conversions. This is the truth. But there’s more to it than just adding a post and writing some words. You need to create something better, something that not only is compelling for your audience, but is designed in a way that makes it easy to read.

Use clear headlines

The majority of readers will scan your blog post for headlines and subtitles to see if the post is relevant before they read the post in its entirety. Include pertinent and clear headlines to make things easy for your readers to know your topics. And don’t forget to use your heading tags correctly! Remember, h1 first followed by h2 and h3.

Include visual content

People are visual creatures and if you include relevant images, graphs and/or photographs to your content, it will give your article a boost. Break up long test with images, add in useful downloads, and include icons or visual elements. This is the age of Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook and readers are more likely to share your blog post if an image is included. If you’re using WordPress (and we hope you are) be sure to set an image as the featured image, because that what will show when the article is shared.

Use bullet points

If you have a hand full or more of important facts, that are possibly dull and boring, use bullet points to get your facts across effectively. Bullet points scream important and their lines leap off the page and draw your eyes directly to them. They help break up the text to make it easier to read and find the information they are looking for. Remember, people are scanners!

Don’t be afraid of bold and italics

Use bold and italics in your blog posts will highlight keywords and important sentences. As your readers browse through your blog posts they will pause at words that are bold or italicized because they create an emphasis point for the eyes.

Add in block quotes to highlight text throughout

Block quotes make text standout. They can highlight important points, showcase testimonials, or make a call to action stand out.

Use shorter sentences and paragraphs

Not every blogger needs to be a wordy novelist when writing a blog post. Keeps things well-written, but simple, so every reader can read your blog post with ease and be assured it won’t take several hours to finish. Don’t write a novel just to write a novel. Yes, long form content is becoming more important for SEO, so bloggers are trying to create wordier blog posts. That’s great, as long as those words are creating quality, relevant content that your users are looking for. Nobody wants to read your PhD dissertation.

Don’t forget your call-to-action
