web page design myths

If you want your website to stand out then your online presence must be outstanding. There are far to many dull and boring websites in the world – you don’t have too be one of them. Building a great site is easy – all you have to do is follow a few creative rules.

  1. A well thought-out and easy to use navigation system. Why? If your viewers can’t find what they are looking for then they will leave your site. Make things easy for your user so they will stick around and get to know you better. A few items you should never leave out are: HOME  ABOUT  SERVICES and CONTACT. If you have a blog, portfolio and/or a testimonials page, then don’t forget to add them as well.
  2. A pleasing or eye-catching color arrangement. Color is essential in conveying the right message to your readers. Color is highly contextual and often conveys a powerful, symbolic, and frequently, subconscious message. Ask yourself a few questions when you are choosing colors for your site. Who are your visitors? What is the objective of the website? Bright colors tend to grab your attention and are physically stimulating. Deep, muted and pale colors then to be calmer and offer a more relaxed environment. Keep the color scheme to around 3 main colors to a cohesive theme.
  3. Good use of space. All of your information and every company photo does not need to be crammed onto your homepage. If your navigation is well-planned then you can have the bare minimum on the home page so you can make the best use of spatial arrangements. Your web designer should be able use space to your advantage and draw attention to the important elements on your site.
  4. Great Images. Photos and illustrations are available at great prices from stock photography companies these days. Make sure the images you choose are relevant to your site and/or products you are highlighting. If you are selling a product it is always a good idea to hire a professional photographer. The difference between amateur photos and professional ones can often make or break a website.
  5. Easy to read and unique fonts. What good is having great content if your text is illegible? Pay attention to your size and font. Now is a great time to be a font, no longer do we only have a handful of web-safe fonts to chose from. There is no reason to be boring. Try something eye-catching that makes you stand out from your competitors.
