Have you made your website mobile-friendly yet? If not, it’s time.

Actually, Mobilegeddon, as we liked to call it, happened this past April. April 21st to be exact. That was the date that Google said they would start including mobile-friendliness as a factor in their search rankings. We’ve been in business for nine years, so there are plenty of sites in our portfolio that are not responsive (although all sites we make now are.) We encouraged our clients, both past, present, and future, to consider either an updated, responsive design, or  at the very least, a good mobile plugin, like WPTouch.

Some took our advice, and some didn’t think it was a big deal. And that’s up to each person to decide for themselves. But let me share this little article with you.

A study tracked 1,000 important e-commerce keywords and found that the sites that were not mobile-friendly start dropping from the top results.

“The company found that 83 percent of the the time, the top result was mobile-friendly, and 81 percent of the time, the top three results were. On page one of the Google mobile SERP, 77 percent of results (or 7.7 out of 10) were mobile-friendly.”

There has been varying debates about the varying affect that this Google algorithm change would have, but if the results of this study are to be believed, it’s had more impact than many thought.

If you haven’t made any attempts to make your site mobile-friendly, now is the time to do it. Not only will it prevent your site from losing ranking, but now you have the opportunity to jump ahead of your competitors who may have missed the mobile memo.
